What The Future Wants

We’re excited to introduce our first mini-exhibition in our new space, ‘What The Future Wants’. This exhibition is part of our ongoing initiatives in Digital Detox, Digital Security, and Digital Climate Action, aiming to inspire reflection and action in a rapidly digitalising world.

What The Future Wants’ is a youth-driven initiative by Tactical Tech that places young people at the forefront of shaping their digital futures. In today’s world, digital technologies are deeply embedded in every aspect of life—blurring the boundaries between public and private, and between online and off line spaces. Young people are growing up in an environment where their social interactions, learning experiences, and even playtime are increasingly mediated by technology. This reality presents unique challenges, such as tech addiction, information overload, algorithmic biases, and pervasive data surveillance.

The goal of ‘What The Future Wants’ is to define and tackle these challenges alongside young people and those who support them. Through research, educational programmes, and creative projects, we strive to enhance the data literacy of the next generation. We want to empower them to critically analyse and actively shape the digital environment they inhabit, both now and in the future.

Our mini exhibition serves as a lens into the ways technology is transforming our world. It reveals the often-hidden aspects of our digital lives—from the subtle, manipulative designs that keep us glued to apps, to the intricate and sometimes exploitative processes involved in the production of smartphones.

As you engage with the exhibition, we invite you to reflect on your own relationship with technology. How can devices foster a sense of connection while simultaneously making us feel isolated? Are these effects intentional features of the technology, or are they flaws?

Ultimately, ask yourself: What kind of digital future do I want, and how can we create it?
