NEoN is a SCIO based in Dundee and aims to advance the understanding and accessibility of digital and technology-driven art forms and to encourage high quality within the production of this medium. NEoN achieves this with its annual pop-up programme and Digital Arts Festival. Using many different platforms such as exhibitions, workshops, talks, conferences, live performances and public discussions, NEoN has established itself as a platform to showcase national and international digital art forms. By bringing together emerging talent and well-established artists, we aim to influence and reshape the genre.
NEoN is committed to reconsidering its place and purpose as an organisation. NEoN is redesigning its programme, policies and framework and rethinking ways in which communities and people with diverse lived-experiences can meaningfully engage in the governance and programming of NEoN. Working in partnership with artists and other appropriate stakeholders, we are interrogating our normative operations and making any necessary changes and in particular, making changes to define better and reflect our equality, diversity and inclusion goals.
Being a trustee is an opportunity to support our Director Donna Holford-Lovell to implement its newly developed plan and provide the most effective support for the sector at a time when it couldn’t be more needed. The Director and current trustees are keen to find new ways of moving forward to support four identified aims.
Commitment to new audiences and reaching new people, focusing on women creatives and emerging artists, working in digital and technology-driven art.
Best practice in internal and external equality, diversity and inclusion.
Development of representation, branding and communication - particularly how to reach underrepresented groups, making it accessible and consistent.
New working practices and governance - being transparent and inclusive.
Outreach will be embedded in all of the above and inform a new outreach strategy.
We’re particularly, but not only, looking for people who have experience in the following:
Business development skills, to develop more services that will benefit our network and bring in income.
Finance and fundraising, having a unique approach to revenue streams.
Equality, Inclusion and Diversity.
Human Resources and people management.
Branding and digital communication.
As well as attending at least five trustee meetings a year to review overall performance, we’d expect trustees to be an active advocate in at least one of NEoNs development aims, bringing your specific skills and experience to help NEoN achieve its aims and objectives.
It is essential to the organisation that there is a diversity of voices and lived-experiences on our board of trustees. The importance of lived experience goes more in-depth than demographics. It’s about real, on-the-ground knowledge of the work that the organisation is doing from the individuals' perspectives and communities it seeks to serve.
We especially encourage applicants who identify as carers, parents, non-binary and genderqueer folk, people that identify as neurodiverse and disabled, people from Black, African, Caribbean, Asian, Multiple or any other ethnic groups, people from the queer community, people from working-class backgrounds, people from different religious backgrounds. We also encourage young people and students to apply.
Trustee positions are not paid; however, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed to allow you to participate. Trustees will have the option of taking part in meetings remotely, so it is unnecessary to live in Dundee or Scotland.
