Create:Move:Connect Children’s Art Week

NEoN outreach team has put together a new creative pack for parents and children to create animated artworks together at home. Taking inspiration from previous NEoN workshops and past technologies, the pack explores historical methods and techniques that will bring your imagination to life. Featuring activities such as flipbook making, shadow art and puppetry.

An offline version of this project has been specifically designed for young mothers and their children to get creative together who do not have access to a computer. However, NEoN invites any family wanting to get involved to enjoy the downloadable version.

The free pack is available to download now and a limited number of printed packs are being made available to Young Mothers living in Dundee.

Projects include: Sketch-a-Story,  Moving Bodies, Flipimation, Shadow Shapes and Connection Cards. Design your own comic book style story, have fun building puppets with moving parts, explore the wonderful world of flipbook animation and much more!

This project is part of Children’s Art Week 2020, a national programme of events and activities for children running from 29th June-19th of July 2020. Children’s Art Week will see thousands of children, their teachers and their families taking part in fun, creative activities at home and in schools across three weeks in June and July. Venues of all types and sizes are hosting online and remote activities that will help children and young people to be inspired, engaged and entertained by art. Over the past months, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how essential creativity and the visual arts are for learning, connecting and wellbeing.

This activity has been supported by Engage Scotland. Children’s Art Week is run by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education and supported in 2020 by Arts Council England, Creative Scotland and Arts Council of Wales and The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust.
