Museums are often seen as traditional, even stuffy, establishments, devoted to preserving the material culture of the past. But museums also have a remit to reach new audiences and keep up-to-date with developments in technology to interpret and make accessible their collections. This event will explore some of the ways in which museums are embracing developments in interactive digital media and will consider some of the issues involved (both practical and ethical). A variety of case studies will be presented, including the role of digital technology in the redevelopment of The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum. Will new technology change our museums forever?
