Self-Made Wi-Fi Antennas workshop

Roel Roscam Abbing (Netherlands)

Taking inspiration from Roscam Abbings ‘Pretty Fly For A Wi-Fi’ project, this workshop show participants how to construct their own do-it-yourself Wi-Fi antennas using locally sourced materials. During the workshop participants will be guided through the steps of understanding how Wi-Fi antennas work, how this knowledge can be used to make one’s own and how to test them for signal strength. The workshop will end with a set up to see which antenna design has the best reach.

Roel Roscam Abbing (Netherlands) – Pretty Fly For A Wi-Fi is an overview of do-it-yourself Wi-Fi antennas, constructed from a combination of pots and pans, dishes and cans through which people from around the world give shape to their collective dream of creating an alternative networks. Each of these objects tells part of the story of individuals and groups, who each in their own way try to reconfigure the internet’s infrastructure to achieve this goal.
